ICE has experience developing and using many different specialized manufacturing processes for composites. Forged Composites, Rigid Bladder Molding, RTM, and SQRTM are all examples of proprietary processes that ICE has experience with and uses.
The forged composite manufacturing process involves compression molding of chopped fiber sheet molding compound (SMC). A generic shaped “charge” is placed into the mold. Pressure and heat is added which causes the material to fill out the mold into a complex, net shaped geometry.

Prepreg material is applied to a semi-rigid bladder. The part is then inserted into a female cavity mold. A press is used to clamp the mold shut and heat is applied to cure the part. Air pressure is used to force the laminate outward in the cavity and consolidate the material in the closed mold.
